Schillings Comments

Well, Curt Schilling recently posted on his blog his personal view on what those mentioned in the Mitchell Report should do. What seemed to be his main focus was Roger Clemens and what he should do. He has clearly stated that Clemens must come out and defend himself or give up his Cy Young awards and have his records erased. There has not been much movement from the Clemens camp other than his lawyer releasing brief statements claiming his complete innocence.

This advice from Schilling seems to be right on. I feel Clemens does have some responsibility for being mentioned in this report. Even if he has not taken any steroids (he claims he has never taken ANYTHING), he should fight to have his name erased from this report. This report will be remembered forever in the sport, and one of the best pitchers of all time is mentioned. If he feels he really is innocent, he needs to fight for that. Clemens has stated his disappointment in the fans for not giving him the benefit of the doubt; but at this point in baseball's history, its hard to believe what these players say anymore. Because of this shadow of doubt cast onto baseball, it is necessary for these players to prove their innocence.

The real question here is whether or not Clemens should give up his awards and records (or maybe they would even be taken away). I feel that is too drastic. If Bonds ever admits to taking steroids, would his home run record be taken away? I don't think so. The same should go for Clemens. If he took steroids when the Mitchell Report claims, the shots he took may not have been banned substances yet. HGH was just banned recently! These players were taking substances that were merely frowned upon, not illegal. All these substances are now disallowed and those who are found guilty of taking illegal steroids from this time on should be punished.

Clemens needs to fight for his innocence. This down time between the release of the report and his response is only creating more tension among Clemens fans.
